The Curtain shall Divide for You
He stretches Zaphon over the void, hangs earth over emptiness, bundles water in His clouds, the scud does not burst below, covers the face of the throne, spreads His cloud upon it, draws a circle over the water to the border of light and darkness (Job 26:7–10).
“He holds tightly thick darkness about His throne so that angels will not see Him; He spreads the clouds of His glory over it like פַּרְגוֹדָא (pargoda), a curtain” (Targum to Job 26:9).
“The Tabernacle denotes that its importance was equal to that of the world, which is called ‘tent,’ even as the Tabernacle is called ‘tent.’ What is the proof? As is written, In the beginning Elohim created the heavens (Genesis 1:1), and it is written, Wrapped in light like a cloak, stretching out heavens like a tent-cloth (Psalms 104:2), while of the Tabernacle it is written, And you shall make goat-hair panels for a tent over the Tabernacle… (Exodus 26:7). It is written of the second day, And Elohim said, Let there be a vault [in the midst of the waters,] and let it divide [water from water] (Genesis 1:6), and of the Tabernacle it is written, and הַפָּרֹכֶ (ha-parokhet), the curtain, shall divide for you [between the Holy and the Holy of Holies] (Exodus 26:33)” (Bemidbar Rabbah 12:13).
